Silver Springs Guests
The
Van Dyck family: Charles Van Dyck Sr. (1899-1977), William (Bill) Van Dyck
(1949-), Charles Van Dyck Jr. (1931-1995), and Billie Van Dyck (1907-1994), .
The Van Dycks (my Grand Parents and Father) were from Des Moines, IA where they owned the Van Dyck Furnace Company and were residential home builders. Charles Sr. and Billie began visiting Leech Lake in 1920 and stopped visiting the lake after they sold their cabins in 1968.
Charles Sr., loved fishing, golf and running his company. When at the lake Grandpa would take Grandma and I fishing all morning then go back out in the late afternoon just for himself. He never returned without a stringer full of walleyes.
Billie graduated from seminary school at the age of 21 and was always involved with the church. She was also the company's bookkeeper and involved in their land development projects.
Charles Jr., enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and fast cars. He and Grandpa enjoyed fishing the lake but also looked forward to duck season trips back up north. Charles Jr., ran the furnace company for years after Sr. retired.
William Van Dyck: I'm a retired airline pilot living in Gold Canyon, AZ. While I still enjoy regular fishing trips to Leech it is more a chance to reconnect with the memories of my family. I have traveled over much of North and South America but I can't get enough of being at the Lake.
Jasson Moore (Born1971)
My son, Jasson's first trip to Silver Springs was at the age of 18 months. This photo was taken on our last stay at Silver Springs in 1987. Jasson called the boat a Leakcraft because of the water that seeped thru the hull.
Living in Atlanta, GA, Jasson works for Lockheed-Marietta as a Senior Field Technician on the F-22 Raptor and is raising our three grandchildren. Jasson's free time is spent in activities centered around his kids and church.
Becky
Goken
My parents owned/operated Silver Springs for a bunch of years in
a late 80's. Their names were Darwyn & Carol Goken. I'm their youngest daughter,
Becky. Some of my fondest summer memories came from Minnesota, on the beaches of
Kabekona Bay.
We lived in the cabin furthest to the east - up on the hill, behind the fish shed. It had a large moose head hanging on the east wall, 3 bedrooms, and a bathroom - and a very large great room! :) I think it was about 1991, when my parents decided to sell the resort (the part we owned anyways) and then moved and bought a small lakeside cabin near Nevis, on 8th Crow Wing lake.
I am sending along a picture of myself and my (to-be: June 12 [2010]) husband. We are planning a honeymoon to Kabekona Bay (if there's still something open) - if not there, probably somewhere closer to walker on leech lake.
Please send me photos and bio information and I will be glad to include you or your family member here. wgvandyck@msn.com
